Sitaarattva's Blessing
An ancient story told to children by elders about the god Sitaarattva and the creation of Astradeva.
The story tells about how the oldest constellation in the sky, the god Sitaarattva died and in their death, Astradeva were born from the immeasurable amounts of divine mana left behind. It's believed the gems on their bodies are remnants of the stars which were told to have sparkled like brilliant gemstones; the source of their magic.
It is called the Mark of Sitaarattva.
In the beginning, long before time, the oldest cluster of stars brightened the sky brilliantly in a long glittering stream that spanned the galaxy in the form of a beautiful, beaming ribbon. It lit up the night for it was brighter than any other collection of stars, having long formed since before the very start of our world.
Sitaarattva, the name of these stars ― an all-powerful deity ― adored gifting Their luminescence to the sky every night. They loved the sky from the day They brought the cosmos into existence and dedicated themselves to the sky entirely.
For thousands of years it remained like this, the unity of Sitaarattva and the vast sky it so loved. Until one day it appeared the atmosphere was darker than it had ever been before. The shining light of Sitaarattva had disappeared, the ribbon no longer a sparkling beacon within the sky.
There lingered a faint glow ― weak and barely visible. Sitaarattva was still there and with the last of Their energy had finally fused to become the ribbon They'd always been formed as in the night sky, suddenly brighter than they've ever been before. A rain of shining stars shot across the dark sky from the glimmering ribbon, painting the sky in Their trails, landing on the ground of Vitashna in a glittering puff of translucent smoke. The first Astradeva were born in the wake of Their beautiful death and inhabited the world of Vitashna ever since.
This was the climactic transition from this realm to the next. Even though Sitaarattva watches over all Astradeva from a higher plane, we are always connected to Them through the everlasting symbol of Sitaarattva's love ― the sparkling gem which we are born with.
Of course, there are still stars present in the sky of Vitashna however they are not believed to be Sitaarattva. Their god has gone to an existence beyond them and the general populace know that.
Despite that, Astradeva believe the remaining stars in the sky are ghostly remnants of Sitaarattva left behind from an age long ago. While they may not be as bright as their stories tell, they resemble the form their god took. Falling stars are a common sight in the Astradevan world of Vitashna and are continued to be observed in awe, no matter how long one has lived.
Sitaarattva refers specifically to the ancient constellation of mana stars that existed from conception of the universe, the first and only of its kind. It isn't simply just a cluster of stars but the creator god who had taken on the form.
